Thornton Cup
The Thornton Cup is a matchplay competition played off scratch with no handicap restrictions, but usually attracts the best club players, typically with handicap indices close to scratch. There are 5 foursome pairs in the morning, followed by 10 singles in the afternoon.
Leslie Wood
The Leslie Wood is a matchplay competition similar to the Thornton Cup, but with a minimum handicap limit of index 6.0
Norman Plum Trophy
The Norman Plum competition is for Pool A players (index 11.0 to 17.5) and Pool B (17.6 to 24.0 ). It is played in pairs, 3 home and 3 away, at the same time / same day with at least 2 players from each handicap Pool. Format is betterball matchplay. This competition is played on a knock out basis.
Jubilee Cup
The Jubilee Cup is for players with handicaps of 12 - 24. Players with a handicap of between 12-16 play a singles match off scratch, and players with a handicap of between 17-24 play in a pairs match off 90% of the handicap difference between the lowest handicapped player. Players with a handicap higher than 24 are welcome to enter however the maximum handicap allowance is 24. This competition is initially played on a league basis and is independent from the other three Essex Golf Union Competitions.
